From idea to reality
LoRaWAN at the exhibition center
In addition to the 5G campus network at the Deutsche Messe exhibition center in Hannover, Germany, another wireless network technology has been installed - LoRaWAN.
The aim is to technologically equip the exhibition center with further wireless communication, which can also be used by exhibitors at our trade fairs.
Digimondo will install sensors at various locations on the exhibition grounds for the individual use cases on display at HANNOVER MESSE 2024. Specific use cases include noise level measurement, CO2 monitoring, fill level measurement (waste containers and water level), parking lot monitoring, soil moisture measurement, people counting (without image recording), the use of a feedback button, a door contact monitoring as well as the meter reading at the Smart Venue booth and the bee scale of the fair bees on the green area at Hall 21.
These data converge in a Public Dashboard transparent to all visitors in the form of map displays. The Public Dashboard thus makes it possible to share real-time data with people outside one's own organization in order to provide full transparency close to the application and without the need for explanation.
Production
Smart Production
The Smart Venue in Hanover offers countless application examples and becomes an experience park for Industry 4.0
Smart Factory
Thanks to digital networking, processes in manufacturing plants and logistics systems are highly automated and self-organised.
This requires a high-performance mobile network, whereby various production machines, plants, vehicles and industrial robots are connected with each other.
This makes production and logistics processes more efficient and flexible. This is possible because, due to the high bandwidth with 5G, enormous amounts of data are transported, evaluated and executed in real time.
Predictive Maintenance
Real-time processing of process and machine data makes forecasts possible, which form the basis for needs-based maintenance and consequently the reduction of downtimes. It is necessary to collect large amounts of data.
This data must be stored, processed and analysed with the help of intelligent algorithms.
Due to the huge amounts of data, techniques and databases from the big data environment, such as edge computing, are particularly well suited for use in predictive maintenance.
Data
The large amounts of data, generated around the further developed production management systems, provide companies with valuable information on how to optimize their value creation and production processes.
Data collection, storage and analysis will be important business areas in the future and aspects of cyber security are also gaining enormous importance for companies.
Logistics
Smart Logistics
5G is a key driver for further automation in logistics. It encompasses intelligent and lean supply chains, building on agile cooperation networks and organisational networking.
Information networking takes place through ICT systems, data networks, sensor technology and automatic identification technologies.
At the heart of the classic transport of goods are connected sensors that transmit the position, temperature, vibrations and other aspects of the handling of shipments to logistics centres or forwarding dispatchers.
As a core element of Industry 4.0, it improves the efficiency of logistics chains and achieves growth through new business models.
The potentials lie in the:
Areas of application include:
Mobilty
Smart Mobility
The use of 5G technologies enables a wide range of optimizations in the field of SMART MOBILITY. The smart venue offers an optimal test, trial and development environment for connected and automated mobility.
A special focus is on autonomous driving:
City & Public Services
Smart City & Public Services
Supply (energy and water) and disposal systems are enriched by many innovations with 5G technology and offer great opportunities for increasing sustainability and resource conservation, e.g. through the simple implementation of intelligent building technology or lighting in inner-city areas that is adapted to requirements by sensors.
5G enables the networking of generators, network operators and consumers within local and regional structures.
Public Transportations
5G ensures greater interconnectivity between the different modes of transport.
This facilitates intermodal transport use when information on the fastest connection in each case is immediately available to everyone by changing or combining modes of transport and the travel chain can be booked online.
In combination with intelligent traffic control systems, traffic density and thus inner-city emissions decrease.
Healthcare
5G improves quality-assured acute and standard care through mobile telemedicine applications and strengthens equal health and care provision in urban and rural regions.
This includes for example:

Public Safety
"Public safety" is one of the most important areas of application. International blue-light organisations have great interest in the new mobile radio and network technology - a high safety standard, low latency and enhanced communication quality are relevant points here.
But virtual functions, which can be supplemented by the cloud-based 5G core network, are also a strength and provide considerable added value. In this way, location of objects as well as facial recognition and anonymisation of persons are integrated as virtual functions into image material recorded by existing cameras.
Smart Farming
Through 5G, intelligent agricultural technology and services such as setting optimisation on machines, optimal fertilisation and harvesting strategies and extensive automation of the process chain can be achieved.
The following applications can be presented at the smart venue using a digital transport system and 5G technology:
Smart Technologies
5G forms the basis for the development towards a networked society. Network slicing makes it possible to design the network infrastructure in a highly flexible way and to adapt it to the needs of the users.
Via the Internet of Things (IoT), objects in all areas of life can network and communicate with each other. Applications are automated and tasks are performed directly without human intervention.
Edge computing significantly increases the quality of service and security of data, and data streams are used in a resource-efficient way.
With the 5G standard, artificial intelligence will enrich people's lives in all areas. Whether in the smart home or in smart farming - AI already accompanies us through everyday life and the development will be raised to a new level by 5G.
Whether by augmenting the real world (AR) or completely immersing oneself in the virtual world (VR), the virtual world offers exciting experiences waiting to be developed further.
